What's
the story behind your Hawaiian shirts? Do wear them all the time,
or just on stage?
The Hawaiian
shirts hmmmm? Well, in a nut shell every one wants to know if
I am Hawaiian...well I'm not. So why do I wear them? Simple, they
fit! And yes I do wear them all the time.
When and
how did the nickname "Picachu" come about?
I did a joke
about living in LA and how I couldn't wear colors because people
would think I was in a gang. If I wore blue I was a "Crypt."
If I wore red I was a "Blood." And if I wore yellow
I was "Picachu."
What can
we expect on your upcoming comedy CD releases?
A lot of material
that's mostly about hanging out with my buddies. A lot of this
same stuff will also be on my upcoming half hour special on Comedy
Central.
Is there
a difference to performing in New York or Kansas City compared
to Latino hot beds like Pasadena or San Antonio?
No difference!
Funny is funny no matter where I go. Mixed crowds are more challenging
only because I can't bounce in and out of Spanish. Other than
that everyone enjoys the show. As for all Latino shows, Texas
takes the cake.
What type
of music do you listen to? Who are your favorite music artists?
I love everything
from Frank Sinatra to Guns and Roses. My all time favs are the
Temptations. I listen to rock, country, jazz, rap, disco, 80's
and 90's and anything from the 50's.
What do
you like to watch on TV and/or at the movies?
Ripleys Believe
It or Not. It makes for great material.
Describe
to us a typical day in the life of Gabriel Iglesias.
I wake up
at about 1 pm. I go have "brunch" and then go to the mall. I love
the mall, any mall! I go home and play video games for a while
and then call my buddies to see who's going to drive to that night's
show. I'll do a show, then hang out and talk to the people at
the club that night. Then I'll top off the night at a 24 hour
restaurant, usually Dennys (not always by choice). I go home,
go online till I get sleepy, knock out around 4 or 5 am and then
do it all over again. It changes depending on what city I'm in,
but for the most part when I'm in LA that's how it goes.
What kind
of hobbies or pastimes do you enjoy?
Movies, bowling,
internet, audio/video collecting, pool, and one more for the mall.
What's
the most enjoyable aspect of doing comedy for you?
The feeling
of acceptance. All my life I wanted people to accept me and now
they do. Comedy gave me a purpose in life. Helping people forget
about their problems, even if it's only for 10 mins.
Who would
you most like to work with and why?
I already
work with them. Felipe Esparza, Armando Cosio and Rudy Moreno.
the unsung heroes of comedy.
Tell us
about the first time you were asked to sign an autograph for a
fan.
She pulled
down her top and said sign here. For a second I said to myself,
I made it!!!!! The second autograph was for the Comic Strip in
El Paso Texas. I personally liked the first one better. =)
What's
on the horizon for Gabriel Iglesias?
In December
I will be taping my half hour special for Comedy Central. In February
I will be making my second appearance on the Tonight Show with
Jay Leno and a tour is scheduled for 2003 starring yours truly.
