Performing
comedy since 1997, Armando Cosio has become a fan favorite to
many in a short period of time. In just five years, Armando has
gone from killing roaches (he's a licensed exterminator) to killing
audiences nightly on the standup comedy circuit. He makes fun
of it all, from his humble beginnings in Tijuana, Mexico, to growing
up in East Los Angeles. Armado (his friends call him, "Mando")
is like the funny uncle who makes you laugh at the dinner table
till you choke! "I lose more nephews that way". A late bloomer,Armando
started his comedy career at the age 39. His response; "Hey I
had to raise a family, so I could make fun of them!"
Armando was
born September 1st, 1956 in Tijuana, Mexico. He lived in La Colonia
Aleman with his grandparents ("Nana" & "Tata") while
his mother and father worked in California. Eventually, mom and
dad returned for him and the rest of the kids and they started
their new life in America.
Growing up
in the hills of Echo Park was quite an experience for Mando. Seven
kids and two parents shared a single bathroom, so having to go,
meant visiting the bushes outside or knocking on the neighbor's
door and asking to use their bathroom. Sleeping in a two bedroom
house was also quite a challenge! The boys had one room with two
beds, the girls bunked with mom & dad, and visiting relatives
slept on the couch or the floor. For years, Mando slept with a
brother's foot in his face.
A nightly
game of "free for all" would always start at bedtime when the
lights went out. This included tossing shoes at each other and
punching whoever was near you. The horsing around only ended when
one of us started crying and we heard knocking on the wall from
the next room followed by the official game ending yell "Stop
that or I'm coming in with my belt!"
Appearing
several times on Galavision's Que Locos, Armando is probably best
remembered as the Lottery winner "Flaco" along side his good friend
Gabriel Iglesias. When these two big guys get on stage, look out!
